Korda, Sir Alexander
(1893–1956)
   Film producer and director. After working in the film industry in his native Hungary, Korda went to Hollywood and then settled in London in 1929. His first major success was The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933), starring Charles Laughton and Merle Oberon, whom he later married. He directed or produced a number of important British films through the London Film Productions Ltd. or Alexander Korda Film Productions. In 1942 he was knighted for his services to British films.
