Dubinsky, David
(1892–1981)
   US labour leader. Arriving in New York from Poland in 1910, Dubinsky found work as a cutter in the rag trade. He was president of the International Ladies Garment Workers’ Union for thirty-four years (1931–66) and made it one of the most respected and progressive labour unions in the world. He was an influential figure in the Democratic Party, and in the anti-Communist International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU). Dubinsky took a keen interest in the Histadrut and visited Israel many times. The members of his union contributed the funds to build a hospital in Beersheba in his name.
